Implementation of risk-informed management of NPP configuration

On November 19-22, at the site of the Zaporizhzhia NPP with the participation of specialists of "NT-Engineering" LLC, a training for the group of engineering support and instructors of the STC on the risk-informed management of the NPP configuration was conducted.

The training was carried out within the framework of the task “Training of NPP personnel on risk-informed equipment configuration management” of the SDR optimization project, which is being implemented at Unit 2 of the SP ZhNPP with the support of the Argonne National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy. The purpose of this Project is to increase the installed capacity factor of the unit, as well as to increase the efficiency of operation by repairing systems important for safety during unit operation at capacity and reducing the duration of routine preventive repairs without reducing the level of safety.

Task forces of the engineering support and instructors of the training center of SP ZhNPP, as well as specialists of SSTC NRS and SE “NNEGC “Energoatom” were involved in the course. During the training, participants gained theoretical and practical skills in applying risk-informed approaches to managing the NPP configuration. During the theoretical sessions, the students were presented with methodical and technical information on the implementation of risk-informed management of the NPP configuration, selection criteria and list of equipment that can be repaired during the power unit operation, as well as the application of RiskWatcher software for the model of the NPP Unit # 2 risk monitor.

During the practical training, the students learned about using the risk-monitor model in the format of the RiskWatcher calculation code, developed by the specialists of NT-Engineering LLC at the preliminary stages of the Project.

It should be noted that the participants showed a high level of interest in using the RiskWatcher risk monitor model and software. The acquired skills will be used in the next phase of the Project in the development of the training program and its implementation for the operational staff of the NPP.
