Mission of Ukraine to NATO presented in Brussels the Vakulenchuk project implemented by the company NT-Engineering

The Mission of Ukraine to NATO, together with the Permanent Mission of Germany to NATO and the NATO Support and procurement Agency organised an exhibition in Brussels at NATO Headquarters about re-disposal of radioactive waste (RAW), occured as a result of the implementation of military programs in the former USSR.

There are several sites in Ukraine where radioactive waste was disposed of in the 1960s and 1990s by the Armed Forces of the former USSR. After the transfer of the objects, Ukraine received no information on the nature and properties of ionizing radiation sources in the burial site. There were six RAW disposal sites kept by the Ministry of Defense and other state authorities. One of them was successfully liquidated at the Vakulenchuk facility by the specialists of "NT-Engineering" as a result of the implementation of the first phase of the Trust Fund project for the Elimination of Radioactive Waste Storage in Ukraine with the assistance of NATO member countries. The Agreement provides for a full cycle of remediation of former territories of military units for later use. The next stage of the project implementation is the liquidation of the radioactive waste storage facility near the village of Tsybuleve in the Kirovograd region (property of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine).
