The contract is signed between NT-Engineering LLC and NATO on elimination of radioactive waste repositary

On April 21, 2019, at the State Agency of Ukraine for the Exclusion Zone Management, there took place the signing of contractual documents between the company "NT-Engineering", which won the international competition, and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), on "Liquidation of the repositary of radioactive waste at the object "Tsybuleve " of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It stores non-classified sources of ionizing radiation, left to inheritance to Ukraine by the Soviet Army.

"I am glad that we have reached the final stage of contractor selection - signing a contract, but at the same time it is just the beginning of a big and important work. And I have no doubt that it will succeed! "- said Peter Dohmen, General Manager of the NATO Support and Procurement Agency. The liquidation of the repositary is funded by the governments of Germany and the Netherlands in the framework of the project of the Alliance's Trust Fund for Radioactive Waste Burning.

"Within a period of 18 months, the company NT-Engineering must conduct an examination of the territory of the burial ground, classify radioactive waste stored in concrete wells, prepare a site for carrying out works complying with all standards of radioactive waste management, and agree with the respective regulatory bodies the engineering decisions on utilization and provide logistics for the transfer of these wastes to responsible storage in specialized stores in the Exclusion Zone.

Thus, "NT-Engineering" will take off a serious environmental load and minimize radiation risks for the territory and people living near the repository. Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Petrenko stated during the signing of the contract that the company "NT-Engineering", in the framework of the preliminary contract on liquidation of the burial ground "Vakulenchuk" in the Zhytomyr region, completed the work in a timely and qualitative manner. "I have no doubt that this project will be just as successful," said Petrenko. The engineers of the company are planning to visit the military unit, where the repository "Tsybuleve" is located, this week.

Once the works are completed, the Ministry of Defense will receive an environmentally-friendly platform for further use.
